Talking Bees Continues its Strong Performance at Recent Competitions

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Speech and Debate Team had a sequence of strong performances at two competitions. Some of the team and individual highlights are below. The team’s recent performance during the last weekend of January at the Hathaway Brown competition was highlighted by a 5th-place overall team finish and several top individual performances. Hamsika Totapally placed 1st overall in the Original Oratory division and Anna Painter placed 1st overall in the Informative Speaking division. Alex Yeh placed 1st overall in the International Extemporaneous category, while Donnie Karpowicz registered a 2nd placed overall finish in the International Extemporaneous division. These performances helped earn Donnie Karpowicz and Alex Yeh pathways to the State Tournament later this year! At a home tournament event hosted at BBHHS on Saturday, January 6th. The Talking Bees secured an impressive 2nd place overall finish out of eighteen teams!   • Alex Yeh: 1st place in International Extemporaneous
  • Nakshatra Mohan: 1st place in Congress Chamber B
  • Hamsika Totapally: 2nd place in Original Oratory
  • Colette Sarli-Freeman: 4th place in Congress Chamber A
  • Kaelyn Foley: 4th place in Humorous Interpretation
  • Atidya Mohan: 5th place in Congress Chamber A
  • Katie Young and Nicky Toth: 5th place in Duo Interpretation
  • Karis Sung: 6th place in Informative Speaking
  • Donnie Karpowicz: 6th place in International Extemporaneous
  • Simon Youssef: 6th place in Congress Chamber B

A special mention to BBHHS Senior, Colette Sarli-Freeman for not only her impressive weekend performance but also for securing her fourth bid to the State Tournament, qualifying early. The Talking Bees continue to have talented team and individual success this season, and we look forward to having more BBHHS students qualify for the state event!
